I have been to Lonavala countless times because it is one of the most popular hill stations  near Mumbai. It’s very difficult to summarise so many trips in one post as every visit has given me some different experience.

Lonavala has become very poplar because of its close proximity to mumbai It is also popular during monsoon season. These factors have made availability of all facilities in this hill station.

Attractions

Lonavala Lake

Primarily a picnic spot during the monsoons – the lake being dry in other parts of the year is the Lonavala Lake. At a mere 1.5km from the town, this destination is ideal for families as well as couples.

Celebrity Wax museum

This Wax Museum is founded by a 38 year old wax artist from Kerala, Sunil Kandaloor. It houses sculptures of Rajiv Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto, Michael Jackson, Kapil Dev Adolf Hitler, AR Rahman and many more. Image of Chhatrapati Shivaji is the highlight of the museum.

Karla Caves

Located near Lonavala, this place is a colony to caves built by Buddhist monks in between 3rd to 2nd century BC. Rock cut carvings, huge pillars and the magnificient chaitya are its main attraction.

Bushi Dam

Bhushi dam flourishes in Monsoons! This point is one MUST VISIT point in Lonavala where you can spend 1-2 hours just playing in the gushing water. No matter you are a kid or adult, this place is a hub of enjoyment for all. DON’T COME BACK WITHOUT VISITING THIS PLACE IN MONSOONS.

Amby Valley

Aamby Valley City is a township developed by the Sahara India Pariwar in Pune district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is about 23 km from Lonavala, it is one of the best visited place around.

  • Mumbai: approx 100 km 2.5 – 3  hours drive via Mumbai-pune expressway
  • Pune: approx 70 km 1.5 hours drive via Mumbai-pune expressway

Best season

The best time to visit Lonavala is between the months of October and May. Though people do travel and visit During June-Sep which experience monsoon season. The experience is just awww.
